A contemporary Irish jewellery collection inspired by the iconic patron saint of Ireland St Brigid and the unquenchable spirit of the Irish nation which is often challenged but never extinguished.
St. Brigid, a patron saint of Ireland was born in Faughart Co. Louth and was named by her father after one for the most powerful goddesses of the pagan religion – the goddess of fire whose manifestations were song, craftsmanship and poetry which were considered the flame of knowledge. After converting to Christianity St. Brigid went on to establish many convents including one in Kildare where she also founded a school of art, including metal work and illumination. In St. Brigid’s honour a perpetual fire was kept burning in the monastery and the people of Kildare continue to keep this lit. One of the iconic symbols of Ireland is the St Brigid’s Cross which is traditionally made from rushes each year to celebrate the beginning of spring on February 1st.
