My work often starts with a blank sheet of metal and an image in my head. To create a unique piece of jewellery I need to use several different techniques before it is ready to be presented to the customer. The design is drawn on the metal and the required shape then cut out with a fine hand saw. The metal is then textured or shaped and may have additional pieces soldered to form 3d shapes or settings for precious stones. The piece is then filed and using a very fine emery paper all rough edges are smoothed. At this stage if the design includes stones, these are set into the piece using traditional setting tools. Ready for the final stage the piece is then polished to add the last few touches before it is presented to the customer.
