The Long Woman – this piece was inspired by the story of a tall Spanish bride who was brought to Ireland by her Irish husband Lorcan O Hanlon. He deceived her with tales of great wealth and the love story ends in tragedy when the bride realises she has been tricked. Legend has it that the young bride collapsed and died on Lorcan's worthless land, and Lorcan unable to live without his wife threw himself into a bog and drowned. The Long Woman's grave is still visible in the Cooley Mountains above Omeath where Garrett is based. For more information on this story see www.omeath.net |
